Successful Seminar

This year's seminar at Breezy Point was a great success! Over 70 biomedical technicians and managers attended classes ranging from how to select an equipment management program to how biomeds can help third world countries. Overall rating of the seminar and each individual class was very good, with some good suggestions for future topics.

Surveys were handed out for each of the classes and for the seminar as a whole. Ratings were from 1 to 5 with 5 being the best. The results were:

Letter from the President

Just a few words about where we have been and where we are going. The 1997/1998 year was wildly successful with Vickie Snyder at the helm.

The educational opportunities included:

Evaluating the effectiveness of your preventative maintenance program.

A BMET’s experience in Nicaragua.

Neonate anatomy & physiology and the monitoring of that patient population.

Argon coagulation technology.

And all 12 of the 5th annual seminar classes.

Other things the NCBA has been involved in include:

The Biomedical/Clinical Engineering week petition.

Updating the bylaws.

The Struthers Award of Excellence.

BMET Educational Curriculum.

NCBA webpage.

NCBA educational scholarships.

And more.

Congratulations on a great job Vickie!

(A tough act to follow)

This year (1998/1999) we are looking forward to even more opportunities for education, networking and camaraderie. Things to come include:

Winter of ’98 "Clinical Application of Linear Accelerators" and "Technical Overview of Linear Accelerators"

Spring of ’99 A trip to "The Museum of Questionable Medical Devices" at the University of Minnesota.

Summer of ’99 St. Francis Medical Center. Breckenridge MN host, Chuck Hoaby, (218)643-3000 ext. 448.

Fall of ’99 (The annual seminar) Will have a great line-up of classes and a beach party at

Cragun’s Resort and Conference Center in

Brainard MN.

The Godchild Project Volunteer biomeds gather at the warehouse in St. Paul to sort through and assess donated medical equipment being sent to Guatemala. If you would like to join us call (651)232-6712. Or to go on your own call JoAnne Arnold at (651)917-0917.

NCBA’s Student Scholarship - All biomeds at all levels should apply for this if you meet the criteria.

The Struthers Award of Excellence - Many people in the biomedical community work to improve and advance the profession. Nominate someone you know now!
